Posh is closing and moving to downtown St. Joseph. Peace Consignment is also closing. Never fear: I’ve got other consignment options for you.

New Buffalo is losing two consignment shops because they’ve lost their leases.

POSH, a fixture for high-end men’s and women’s designer consignment apparel and accessories for 13 years, is moving. The last day at 109 N. Barton is March 30, and owner Marie Price has secured a new spot in downtown St. Joseph.

Price was forced to move as her New Buffalo building was sold. She looked in St. Joseph and liked what she found. “They have a nice walking town with an array of shops and restaurants. It’s very inviting,” Price said.

Everything is 50 percent off as she prepares to move. She doesn’t yet have an opening date for St. Joseph; follow her on social media for updates.

Peace Consignment at 7656B Red Arrow Highway in New Buffalo is closing April 30 because the building was sold, says owner Donna Messinger, who has operated Peace for two years. Messinger, a long-time consignor, is looking for another space but is finding rents aren’t affordable, she said.

“It’s been so much fun and I’ve met so many amazing people,” Messigner said. “That’s what I’ll miss the most—interaction with customers.”

All clothes at Peace are 50 percent off. The shop is open this Saturday from 11-5 and Sunday from12-4. In April, Peace will be open every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The closings are a loss for New Buffalo, but there are other local options for bargain hunters. Though it’s a bit of a trek from Southwest Michigan, Swank in Miller School Shops in Miller Beach is worth the drive. You’ll find clothes and accessories from Anthropologie, Free People, Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade and J. Crew, and I recently snagged a pair of cool Athleta joggers for something like $20.

And my favorite consignment experience is the seasonal pop-up called The Girlfriend Sale, which Susan Vissing started out of her home in Long Beach 30 years ago. These days Vissing operates out of the Long Beach Coummunity Center at 2501 Oriole Trail, and it’s become quite the event.

In addition to consigned clothing and accessories, Vissing has a good selection of closeouts from high-end boutiques. I’ve gotten some of my favorite pieces here; say, a top for $65 that would be $250 at full retail.

Warning: The group dressing room, a fun part of the experience, can also lead to some bad decisions. As women try things on, others weigh in. It’s tough to pass on a pair of pants when half a dozen women are saying “Oooooh—those look GREAT on you!” (Hey, maybe they do, and I just don’t see it.)

The next sale starts on Saturday, May 9, and continues for several weekends. Follow The Girlfriend Sale on Facebook for updates and to get information about consigning (which happens in April). Vissing also holds pop-up sales of household items and furniture.

I’m not as familiar with the consignment shops in Bridgman, but there are a couple choices there: Between Friends, which has a small selection of apparel, and Clothes Horse, at 4524 Lake St.
