Summer has faded from view, some locals have closed up their homes in search of warmer climes, and the rest of us are here—thoroughly enjoying the quiet. Off-season in our area is a special time, when the crowds disappear and restaurant reservations are easy to snag. And so are deals!
While some restaurants close for the season (Redamak’s) or reduce hours (always call first!), others have happy hours, prix-fixe menus and discounts to get you into their doors. And the promotions aren’t just confined to Mondays or other off days—you can get a deal any day of the week at one or another restaurant.
We’ve rounded up the best area restaurant deals we could find. Of course, restaurants will inevitably change up these deals; some will last til Memorial Day weekend and some end before; some may be year-round. Let us know if we missed something! And don’t forget to tip on the non-discounted price!

The Heron Bistro, Michigan City
Surely one of the best happy hours in the area, this new French restaurant offers deals on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4-6 pm CT. There are rotating wine, beer, martinis and food specials, like mussels, baked brie, fries, and an improbably delicious braised cabbage (most are $10). My go-to is the Bordeaux Blanc, a 9-ounce pour is $9. House martinis are $10.
